9.1.2.1. Check and utilization of shock-absorbers

During a trip malfunction of shock-absorbers can be determined by the following signs:

 – the long fluctuations of a body caused by roughnesses of the road;
 – a body swing on two following one after another road hillocks;
 – jumping of wheels on the normal road;
 – breakthrough of the car when braking (it can be caused also by other reasons);
 – a road incontience on turns, a drift;
 – strong knocks;
 – the increased wear of tires with bald places on a protector.

The shock-absorber can be checked by effort of a hand. Exact definition of degree of wear is possible only by means of devices: a rod tester (the shock-absorber is not removed) or the test car of shock-absorbers.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove the shock-absorber.
2. Stretch 3 times in assembled form and squeeze the shock-absorber. During all course the shock-absorber has to move evenly hard, without breakthroughs, besides, without undesirable noise.
3. Completely move a shock-absorber rod, then release it. The rod has to move forward outside with a uniform speed.
4. At excellent job insignificant traces of oil are not the basis for replacement of the shock-absorber.
5. Replace the shock-absorber at big loss of oil.
6. Put the shock-absorber.

Prevention

The shock-absorber contains mineral oil, and, for example, in Germany, according to the law on waste its contents are given together with engine oil.


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To merge oil from the shock-absorber, it is necessary to produce previously from it nonpoisonous gas without color and a smell, having drilled at distance 20 mm from the basis a hole with a diameter of 3 mm.
2. To merge oil, it is necessary to drill a hole with a diameter of 5 mm at distance of 60 mm from the basis.
