10.7. Installation of disorder convergence

Optimum road performance and the minimum wear of rubber are reached only if the provision of wheels is correctly exposed. At the increased and uneven wear of tires, and also a road incontience – at bad stability of the direction and insufficient stability on turns it is necessary to address in a workshop that by means of optical methods to expose disorder convergence.

Installation of disorder convergence cannot be carried out without the corresponding equipment. Therefore here only the basic concepts necessary for installation of disorder convergence are described.


Convergence is called the corner on which the plane of a wheel deviates a longitudinal axis of the car. The positive convergence means that wheels at measurement in front agree on height of their centers a little closer, than behind. The negative convergence means that wheels in front disperse more, than behind.

At the Mercedes car both forward, and back wheels have a positive convergence: forward wheels – 0 °25' (a sports suspension bracket 0 °10'), back wheels – 0 °25'.

Thanks to the relevant constructive data, big stability in the direction is reached when braking, in particular, if wheels are on various paving (for example if the left wheel brakes on dry, and right – on the wet road).

Longitudinal inclination шкворня back

The longitudinal inclination шкворня is a corner between an axis of turn of a fist and a vertical in the cross direction back. This inclination substantially influences management of forward wheels at the movement on a straight line. The insignificant inclination favors to deviations from the direction of the movement when driving on bad roads or at a side wind, and on turns the wheel badly comes back to average situation.

The longitudinal inclination together with disorder is exposed by means of two bolts with the clown on suspension bracket levers.

Prerequisites for check

 – the ordered air pressure in tires;
 – the car is not loaded, but prepared for a trip: a full tank, the spare wheel and the tool – all this has to be when checking;
 – it is previously strong to shake a suspension bracket;
 – the wheel costs directly;
 – the side play in suspension bracket levers is adjusted;
 – the side play in bearings of wheels is adjusted.

Check/installation of a positive convergence of forward wheels

The provision of forward wheels at the top view

Exact installation of disorder convergence has to be made only in a company workshop. At unilateral wear of tires the convergence generally has to be checked. The convergence is checked if parts of a steering trapeze were removed. The convergence can be checked by rather simple means.

The above-stated prerequisites for check have to be observed.
1. Put wheels directly, the cross-piece of a wheel has to be located horizontally.
2. Average situation is reached when the groove on a joint of steering connection coincides with a marking mark in the steering mechanism (shooter). If at the same time the steering wheel costs not absolutely directly, remove it and rearrange.
3. Place between forward wheels in front a sliding bar and move apart it by effort about 100 N (there correspond 10 kg). For this purpose use a company special equipment or a similar bar. Razdvizhka is necessary to simulate the movement when wheels seek to be moved apart outside.
4. Measure a convergence. The general convergence of forward wheels has to make 0 °25 '±10' (for a sports suspension bracket 0 °10 '±10'). It means that edges of a rim in front have to stand on 1 mm closer, than behind.
5. Establish a positive convergence, rotating the lever of a steering trapeze for a hexagon (10e). Previously release tightening a cone (10f), at the same time hold the lever for a hexagon Rozhkov a key.
6. Establish a positive convergence with an identical corner at the left and on the right, the wheel has to be at the same time on average situation.
7. Tighten tightening a cone (10f) m 50 N.' moment, holding the lever of a steering trapeze for a hexagon Rozhkov a key. Check a cuff of the ball hinge, it should not be crumpled or damaged. After check (installation) remove the device for a razdvizhka of wheels.
